SEO Tip #2 Checklist for Website Tracking

2nd August 2009 · Paddy · No Comments »

When you put a new website live or take over management of a website, there are always things which need to be done and systems that need to be put in place.  When you work in SEO or PPC or any type of online marketing, you need to be able to track as much data from your website as possible.  There are certain things you can do very easily and for free, so I thought I’d put a small checklist together for this.

  1. Setup a Google Analytics Account or get access to an existing one
  2. Setup a Google Webmaster Tools account
  3. If you run an Ecommerce site, setup Ecommerce tracking in Google Analytics
  4. If you are running a Google AdWords campaign, setup conversion tracking on the conversion page
  5. If you are not running an Ecommerce website, setup Goals tracking in Google Analytics
  6. If you run a blog, claim it at Technorati
  7. If you are running a website for a local business, register it at the Google Local Business centre and put a map on from Google Maps

There are other things you need to have in place in relation to technical SEO things which I’ll blog about soon, if there are any other things which you like to setup when you take over a website please let me know in the comments!
